Today's host: Jennifer Slattery
Today closes yet another very close clash. Our readers clearly love Amish fiction, and according to the comments left in our voting polls, they had a difficult time selecting a favorite.
Here's what a few of you had to say:
"... Each author is fantastic!! And such a great place to hear of new authors that perhaps you haven't read before. Good luck."
"Both excerpts are winners. Can't wait to read them."
"Both of these excerpts are immediately engaging--I think I'd like to read both books!"
The Clash staff agrees! And yet, although this battle was close, it wasn't a draw and one phenomenal author rose to the top.
The next Clash of the Titles' champion is...
Laura Hilton with A Harvest of Hearts!
Here's a snippet of her clash winning excerpt:
Shanna tucked Matthew’s hat between her and the door, and drove up to the light. It was green, but she waited for two cars and a semi to go through, then she turned left onto the road leading past McDonald’s. She maneuvered the vehicle into the parking lot. Winking at Matthew, she plopped his straw hat on her head, remembering too late the old saying that a woman who wore a man’s hat meant she wanted him to kiss her. She licked her lips.
Would he? Maybe on the cheek? (Read the rest here.)
More About the Novel:
Matthew Yoder volunteered to be part of the swap of Amish men from his Old Order
Pennsylvania Amish Community, to the Amish community in Seymour, Missouri. There is nothing for him in Pennsylvania, as the youngest of twelve children, and the lack of farmland around Lancaster County, he felt he could make a better future in another district. Shanna Stoltzfus has been raised Amish, and couldn’t wait for her rumspringa so she could pursue her education. She hated having to quit school in the 8th grade to stay home and learn everything that makes a home run smoothly. But now she has earned her GED and is taking college courses, but her family is begging her to come home; her little sisters miss her. And there’s something about newcomer, Matthew Yoder that draws her attention. But is it enough to give up her dreams of education and join the Amish church?

What readers are saying:
"I really loved this book! Shanna's feelings towards her family, Matthew and even her Amish faith will draw you in! I could not put this book down!"
"I so enjoyed Harvest of Hearts by Laura Hilton. I must say it was fresh Amish in the sense of the romance as well as refreshing and realistic."
"Another winning book by Laura V. Hilton. I really like her fresh new look at the Amish."
